Buddhism believes both in Rebirth and Reincarnation. Buddhist strongly believe in karma or intentional action. Depending on the actions performed in the previous lives, rebirth could be as a human or animal or even ghost, demi gods, or god. Being born as a human is a rare opportunity to works toward escaping the Cycle of Rebirth, it is called Nirvana or enlightenment.

It is also believed that enlightened individuals can chose to be reborn in order to help others become enlighten. Reincarnation is based on the tradition that the Buddha remembered his past life, like those like Tenzi Gyatso(Dalai Lama- Title of religious leader) he is said to be 14th incarnation of Dalai Lama and it is said he remembers details of his pervious life and also 17th Karmapa, Ogyen Trinley Dorjee he is said to have incarnated 17 times.

There is a writing called the “Tibetian Book of Death”- it is a guide telling the dying person how to react and to ensure a positive outcome of the experience. It includes the description on “Bardo States”. These are states between dying and being reborn.
